Hi All,

Here is what we have going on for the first week of October:

Kindergarten: The kindergarten students will read the story Weather Watchers: Fall.  Then, each student will create a landscape drawing showing all of the different things that happen during the fall.

1st Grade: The 1st graders will continue learning about form and creating 3-dimensional collages

2nd Grade: The 2nd graders will learn about warm colors and cool colors.  After learning about these two color families, I divided the room in half.  Students on one half of the room are making oil pastel drawings that only use warm colors and students on the other half of the room are making drawings that only use cool colors.  All students will be able to use neutrals (black, white, gray, and brown).

3rd Grade: The students in 3rd grade will continue to use collage to design their own aliens.  Each student’s collage must use symmetrical balance in at least 3 places and asymmetrical balance in at least 3 places.

4th Grade: These classes will continue working on their color scheme drawings.

5th Grade: The 5th graders will finish creating their Dadaist-inspired photomontages.

NOTE: Students who are unable to finish their work in school will be allowed to work on them before school or after school.  I will be available before school next Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:15 – 8:45.  I will be available after school from 3:45 – 4:15.  I ask that students give one day’s notice if they are coming in before school or after school.  I also ask that students get written parental permission (an email or a handwritten note).

6th Grade: These students will continue creating collages inspired by Henri Matisse. This week, students in Room 218 student will begin creating their final drafts and students in Room 216 will make any necessary revisions to their first drafts.

7th Grade: The students in these classes will continue their graphic design project.  Each student will work on the final draft for his / her logo design.  This week, each student will finish his / her final draft in pencil.
